12 - 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
13 - 1–2 drops red or pink food coloring (optional)
# How-To Steps:
01 - Dissolve active dry yeast in lukewarm milk in a small bowl; let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
02 - Whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a large bowl until evenly mixed.
03 - Add yeast mixture, melted butter, egg yolks, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; mix until soft dough forms.
04 - Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
05 - Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm environment until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
06 - Punch down the risen dough, pinch off 1-inch pieces, and roll each into a smooth ball.
07 - Heat 2 to 3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F.
08 - Fry dough balls in batches for 2 to 3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
09 - Remove fried dough balls with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels; allow them to cool slightly.

11 - Dip each fried dough ball into the cherry glaze; let excess glaze drip off and set on a wire rack.
